Forgiveness

Forgiveness

There are some hurts that may take a lifetime to forgive. For most, forgiveness doesn’t happen instantaneously. It is a process that may take a lifetime but, the willingness to forgive is the first step. There are some who honestly don’t care if they are forgiven or not. Forgiveness isn’t for them, it’s for you.

Throughout my life, I’ve experienced some hurts that will likely take the rest of my life to work though but I have found that if I can forgive those who have hurt me, then these people will no longer have any power over me. God heals the hurt through my willingness to forgive and someday because of that one act of forgiveness, my heart will be forever changed.
My forgiveness may not affect those who have committed the offenses because those people have gone on with their lives completely oblivious to the devastation left in their wake. But, that’s ok because forgiveness breaks the chains that have bound me to them. I am the one who is set free.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean I condone their actions , it means I have moved passed them and they can no longer live rent free in my heart and mind.

Buddha said,”Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.” Refusing to forgive destroys the one who chooses not to forgive but rarely hurts the one who the un- forgiveness is directed toward. God knows all truths and truth will always win in the end. Let there be forgiveness, love and peace.
